Kargil Vijay Diwas

Is observed every year on 26th July to honor the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who fought during the Kargil War in 1999. On this day, India commemorates its victory over Pakistan in the high-altitude conflict fought in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir (now in Ladakh). The war, which lasted for over two months, was a result of Pakistani soldiers and militants infiltrating Indian territory. The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Vijay to push back the intruders and successfully regained control of the occupied peaks.
