Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana were exiled from Ayodhya for 14 years. During their exile, Sita was abducted by the demon king Ravana. Rama defeated Ravana with the help of Hanuman and an army of monkeys. When Rama returned to Ayodhya, the people lit oil lamps to celebrate his victory.
